Christine Conix

Christine Conix (Lier, Belgium, 20 May 1955) is a Belgian architect.[1][2][3]

Conix studied architecture at the Hoger Instituut voor Architectuurwetenschappen Henry van de Velde (Henry van de Helde Higher Institute of Architectural Sciences) in Antwerp. In 1979 she set up our own architectural practice, known today as Conix Architects, with offices in Antwerp and Brussels (2004).

The architectural office gained public attention with the renovation and extension of the Atomium in Brussels (2005), the new head office for Bank J. Van Breda & C° in Antwerp (2007) and recently with the design of the EU pavilion for the Expo 2010 in Shanghai (2010).

Conix Architects consciously decides not to specialize in one typology: every project offers its own challenges. Its portfolio includes residential projects, office buildings, schools, cultural projects, commercial buildings, industrial projects, interior design, product design and renovations.

The type of architecture Conix Architects strives for integrates 4 basic ideas: context, sustainability, society and know-how. The firm’s ‘Energy cell’ implements sustainable measures in each project. Conix Architects’ work can be characterized as high-standard, timeless architecture that integrates itself in its environment.

Besides her function as CEO of Conix Architects, Christine Conix is also a member of the Flemish Architecture Institute and of De Warande in Brussels and she’s a member of the Board of Advice of Design center ‘De Winkelhaak’ in Antwerp and of the Friends of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp. In 2007 she co-founded G30, an organization comprising the largest architectural firms in Belgium of which she’s a member of the board of directors and of the board of advice.

Christine Conix sits on several architectural juries, like ‘Stadsvernieuwingsfonds’ of the Flemish Ministry, the Architectural Price 2006 of the Province of Antwerp and in regular juries of several architectural schools in Antwerp, Brussels and Ghent.
